3. Statements from Officials

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and recovery of weapons, affirming that suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted .

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori highlighted the intensity of the security operation, carried out by the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), ensuring that perpetrators will face justice .

Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, lauded the efforts of police, NSCDC, and FRSC, reporting that areas previously destabilized by disruptions were ultimately stabilized .

4. Political Reaction and Allegations

The APC (All Progressives Congress) called for cancellation of the elections in the affected constituencies, citing rampant violence and voter intimidation by armed thugs that rendered the process neither free nor fair .
Similarly, the PDP (People’s Democratic Party) criticized the election, labeling the process “totally devoid of all democratic processes,” and vowed to reject the results unless reforms are made .
The sizable arrests and seizure of firearms and other weapons point to serious attempts at undermining the electoral process. While security agencies have been lauded for taking swift action, opposition parties have raised concerns about the legitimacy of the election under these conditions.
